Kawartha Ethanol Inc. is a state-of-the-art Ethanol Production facility located in Havelock, Ontario. We currently have the opportunity for the following position:
Controls & Instrument Technician
Reporting to the Technical Services Manager in this new position, the Controls & Instrument Technician is an hourly position, on-site, Monday to Friday, day shift. However, due to 24-hour operations, and the nature of this position “Call-Ins” will be expected.

- Manage and maintain various Industrial Networks for process control such as Profibus, Profinet, AS-Interface and Industrial Ethernet.
- Perform installation, maintenance, testing and calibration of transmitters, (level, pressure, flow, temperature, radar, position, environmental, transducers, probes) control valves, VFD’s, Soft Starts and other associated equipment that send and receive data.
- Troubleshoot and diagnose control systems, identify root causes, propose and implement solutions.
- Participate in the Preventative Maintenance Program and keep detailed records of maintenance, repairs, adjustments and system configurations.
- Communicate technical issues and project timelines with leadership, operations, and the maintenance team. Recognize related production influences and work closely with operations to provide a timely and safe resolution.
- Ensure control systems are operated and maintained safely and in compliance with governing bodies such as ESA, TSSA and OHSA.
- Collaborate with suppliers, engineers, integrators and technology providers.
- Develop specifications for instrumentation, controls, and electrical components. Read and interpret electrical schematics, P&ID’s, PFD’s, manuals, and relevant technical documents.
- Manage spare parts and inventory control of instrumentation and associated control components.
- Attend technical conferences and seminars to maintain knowledge of control system processes and procedures.
Our ideal Candidate will have
- Certification as an Instrumentation and Control Technician.
- Certification as a Controls System Technician (CCST).
- Electrical Engineering Technician – Control Systems (EET-Control Systems)
- Minimum 5-10 years’ relevant field experience in an industrial environment.
- Knowledge of Electrical, Electronic & Pneumatic Instrumentation.
- Knowledge of Fieldbus applications.
- Outstanding written and verbal communications skills.
- The ability to talk technical, read technical, and interpret technical documents.
- A proven record of controls experience and an aptitude for learning.
- An interest in PLC programming.
- Comfortable with leading and facilitating support members, as required.
